This is a second-year student game developed over 8 months by Red Giant Games at Falmouth University.

In the remnants of a destroyed solar system in the far future, the player struggles to survive in the ruins of a war-torn pluto lit by the red glow of a dying sun. A sci-fi base-building survival and exploration game inspired by the likes of Subnautica and Don’t Starve.

A unique sci-fi experience with a focus on multicultural post war survival, with an underlying sense of loneliness

Throughout the development of this project, I encountered numerous issues, particularly with enemy animations. We had no animator in the team and needed animations for the enemy, after having discussions in the project to overcome this issue we used procedural generated animations from scripting. This took a lot of time but was worth it in the long run.

Approaching issues

my ROle - ai & gameplay programmer

Throughout the development of this project I have created some of the core mechanics in the game. One of the vital parts to our survival aspect is the building system, and I was mainly responsible for that.

I also worked on the game's AI, which includes a snake mech, the game's main antagonist who will chase the player down during the survival experience. This AI system was built using behaviour trees and has a variety of features.

  • Building System

  • Enemy AI boss

  • Environmental disasters

  • Mining system

  • Particle effects

  • Scrum meetings

  • In engine development

  • Environment design

  • 3D modelling
